Where We Work
Our offices are located at 3921 Bayshore Road, Palo Alto, CA, 94303. For the past couple of years Climate Resilient Communities has been working with the communities of East Palo Alto, North Fair Oaks, and Belle Haven. We are now working with frontline communities in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.
Belle Haven
Belle Haven is the only Menlo Park neighborhood east of Route 101. As a historically redlined community, Black and Brown people here have been prevented from building lasting wealth in this community due to discriminatory housing practices. Belle Haven is Menlo parks most diverse of the city’s five districts, with a population that is 69% Hispanic, 18% Black, 4% White and 3% Asian/Pacific Islander.
East Palo Alto
East Palo Alto is a densely populated, ethnically diverse community with less than half the average income of neighboring Palo Alto, while having 49% of East Palo Alto is covered by a FEMA regulated flood area. Existing infrastructure, housing, and economic activity is extremely vulnerable to flooding. Past flooding in East Palo Alto has caused millions of dollars in damage and contributed to mold in homes, exacerbating the effects of asthma and other respiratory illnesses.
North Fair Oaks
As an unincorporated, low-income community bordering some of the wealthiest zip codes in the nation, NFO has suffered from the inherent disinvestment that occurs in the fragmented governance structure of the San Francisco Bay Area. Additionally, with most of the city being asphalt, it can get very hot. Because of this, people have been planting trees in backyards to combat the heat with shade and make the air fresher.
