Youth Climate Collective (YCC)

What is the YCC?

CRC’s YCC program aims to increase awareness and understanding of climate change and its impacts in frontline communities. Through a series of hands-on field trips and workshops, our youth will have the opportunity to engage with professionals in the field of environmental justice work. These field trips will provide hands-on experiences and skill development opportunities for students to learn about climate action techniques and to connect with BIPOC leaders in the fields of environmental justice. The YCC aims to educate and empower youth about the local impacts of climate change and provide them with the knowledge, tools, and opportunities to connect with their local environment and community, and empower them to take meaningful positive environmental action.

Who can join?

Young adults aged 14 - 20 years old, with special encouragement to those from North Fair Oaks, East Palo Alto, or Belle Haven (Menlo Park).

When does the YCC meet?

Every other Saturday from Late April to Early September, with internship opportunities to follow!

Why was this program created?

These young adults will receive a stipend, and have the opportunity to experience the many different types of climate-relevant careers available to youth immediately around them, including:

  • Collecting data in canoes with the Marine Science Institute

  • Building nature-based solutions in the local community

  • Modeling climate change at Stanford University

  • Exploring coastal biology at Monterey Bay Aquarium

  • Servicing trails and meeting other passionate youth at Mount Sutro… and much more!

What can I expect to gain from joining the YCC?

  • Paid internship opportunities in a climate-relevant career for the school year or the following summer

  • Skill development: leadership training, environmental science, environmental and social justice, community engagement

  • Unique career experiences and insights into the many paths for a climate career

  • Becoming the founding alumni of a long-standing program for climate education and climate action
